What do you enjoy about coaching?
I enjoy the excitement of competition and watching the student-athletes succeed, not only on the track or field but also in the classroom and life.
What has been the highlight of your coaching career thus far?
Being a part of turning around two struggling programs, football and girls track, has been very special to me. But, in my 3rd year as the head coach of the girls track & field team, we went 5-0 (4-0,1-0) and won the division after being winless the previous 5 or 6 years. That was a moment I won't soon forget.
What is your favorite running or field event?
Being that I coach the sprinters, I'm a littel biased towards the 4x100m relay. It's an event that garners excitement and has everyone at the edge of their seat.
How do you approach preparing the student-athletes for thier events?
We, as a coaching staff, train our athletes for their specific events. This coupled with event specific weight training programs has helped our atheltes to be successful and competitive.
What is your favorite food? Chicken fajitas
What is one of your favorite movies? "Dodge Ball"...I always get a solid laugh out of that one.
Who is your role model and why?
I've always looked up to my Mom and Dad. They taught me that life is about sacrifice. At times, things were financially tough when I was growing up and they sacrificed a great deal to make sure my brother and I stayed involved insports. They understood that sports were vital and helped to build character.
What do you do to relax? I just like to kick back and spend time with my family.
Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
Other than a few gray hairs, I hope to be in the same place I am in now.
