Kurzdorfer wins hammer throw
Penn State sophomore Melissa Kurzdorfer (Lancaster) won the hammer throw with a toss of 205 feet, 1 inch at the annual Penn Relays. Her winning throw, which bettered her closest competitor's by 10 feet, came on her first attempt. She followed with five fouls. Her season-best is 207-0. She'll compete in the shot put and discus this weekend.

"Warm-ups didn't go very well, so on my first throw I just wanted to get one in," she said. "It was the only throw I had all day. It still didn't feel very good, so you know there's a lot more in the tank. It's the closest I've been to my PR so it's exciting."
