Section6Runs Observations and General Musings

  1. How many saw the Alden Steeplechase competitor do a "cannonball" off the barrier and into the water pit? A very gutsy, yet athletic move to do that and then land on both feet without killing himself...gotta love improvisation.
  2. Kudos to event organizer/sports announcer Paul Ksionzyk and his team for a beautifully run event. The only thing he couldn't control was the weather at the latter stages of the meet but let's not hold that against him.
  3. I love the Olean events because it's like a carnival or festival setting with the tents on the hill at turns 1 and 2 plus the food is great too. You suppose it has something to do with Ried's Food Barn?
  4. Speaking of Ried's...can their name be mentioned more than once or are they limited to just one sign at the event as the manufacturer's name on some of the student-athletes clothing underneath their uniforms? I'm surprised the Nike Swoosh hasn't been taped over yet!
  5. The stands next tot he pole vault pit at Olean gives photographers a unique vantage point to shoot pictures from. How many other venues in Section 6 can you get "on top" of the pole vaulters when they jump? I like to think when they planned the configuration for the site they had this in mind.
  6. There appeared to be quite a number of photo journalists and parents taking pictures (can you still say that in the digitial age?) of the kids. Paul doesn't place restrictions at the events and allows this sort of access without interfering with the meet. Another pat on the back to Paul.
  7. Speaking of photo journalism and coverage of track & field, did anyone notice in today's edition of the Buffalo News (Sunday, Apr27), that the only thing mentioned about the Olean Invite was the weather and the meet was canceled? Boy does that tick me off!
