It was an all Canisius day for the boys and a Nardin one for the girls as both school's dominated the races and won their respective Msgr. Martin XC titles for 2008.
Coming as no surprise, Canisius "super senior", Jordan Hamm easily captured the Varsity Boys overall title with an effortless 16:08 followed by Canisius teammates Barry Fitzgerald, Cameron Gallivan and Colin Bogdan in the next three places. St. Joe's Chuck "Stubborn as a" Mule, broke the Canisius monopoly by taking the fifth spot to round out the top five. Canisius took the team title with 16 points.
Girls results as not been reported.
MUSINGS AND OBSERVATIONS
• I felt like a school photographer for Canisius and Nardin...with the number of student-athletes who compete in these programs and how they dominate these races, I guess this will be a familiar lament.
• It was obvious to see the sense of pride in Canisius coach Brian Lombrado's voice as he announced the boys winners considering the majority were from Canisius. He works the kids hard and the training certainly pays off as evidenced by not only these titles but over the course of the season at the major invites. Congrats to Brain and the Canisius squads.
• You have to shake your head when you see the kids running over and through obstacles on the XC course but yet, they trip up the stairs to accept their awards.
• I missed the Nardin mascot this year...must not be Gator weather.
• WNY XC Official Mike Bordenaro was complaining that he needed a hair cut...I told him that's what happens when I go to the barber (no, not stylist!)...I get a hair cut. Just shave it all off Mike...less maintenance!
• Wouldn't you have loved to have had today's race held about three weeks ago when the fall foliage was peaking?
• Is it me or do others get confused when both Nardin and Nichols are in the same race...tough to differentiate the uniforms looking through a camera lens. |
