East Aurora took fifth place in the girls team competition, just 15 points behind third-place Saratoga, at the State Federation meet in Wappingers Falls.
The Blue Devils were led by Jenna Hulton (15th in 19:05.4) and Catherine Lussardi (16th, 19:07.8), .
A 12th-place (16:22.2) by East Aurora senior Ryan O'Connor led the Western New York entries in the boys race. Joe Whalen of Hamburg was 23rd (16:32.2) and John Haenle of Lockport took 27th (16:35.2).
Canisius was 26th in the team scoring.

EA girls cross country repeats
East Aurora won a second straight girls Class B cross country state title while Tom Reubens of Wilson won the boys Class C race in 15:51.
A third place by Catherine Lusardi and a fourth by Jenna Hulton led East Aurora. Kirsten Weberg was 13th, Maria Kelley 19th, Paige Peltan 29th and Tara O'Conner 31st for the Blue Devils.
The Franklinville boys cross country team gave retiring coach Bill Weigel a state title in his final season. Led by Tom Good's 14th place finish the Panthers took the state Class D title at Warwick Valley. Jonathan Spear, Max Easton, Adam Prentice and Ted Krueger had top 50 finishes to lead Franklinville to the title. Franklinville's girls finished eighth.
Top individual finishers for Section VI boys were: a fourth byJoe Whelan of Hamburg in Class A (15:48) and a third by Ryan O'Connor of East Aurora in Class B (15:56). |
